Creative of the week – Mobola Odukoya

Meet our creative of the week, photographer Mobola Odukoya. A student of Pan Atlantic University.

When I was about to cross into my second year in University, I was supposed to take up a course related to photography, so I decided to get a camera so I could practice over the summer holiday.

From there I just fell in love with photography, and I couldn’t stop taking pictures. I love the idea of taking pictures of beautiful people, and expressing myself in my pictures…

My Mom is my major motivation, because she has been the most supportive person in my photography journey, my family as a whole, because they push me, and my friends because they help me hold my head up when things get tough.

I learnt almost everything I know from youtube, and online tutorials, I also ask a lot of questions when i find myself with other photographers because you never know what you might pick up from others. Then I put in a lot of time into my practice because you can’t get better if you don’t practice.

Photography is not as easy as a lot of people think it is. It takes a lot of time, patience, practice and dedication. I spend a large amount of time trying to learn things, but a lot of people think its just to press a button and get an image.

I have a lot of projects in mind, but they aren’t ready yet, so I guess my plan for now is to try to get more exposure…

For young creatives in the field, patience is a virtue, and its really important as a photographer. You also need to be willing to learn and listen, and don’t settle. There’s always something to learn, so don’t get comfortable when you feel you’ve gotten somewhere. Try to learn some more.
