THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO: FIRST DAY AT WORK

Starting at a new place is like a two-way lane and you are simply floating over both. There’s the elation at landing a new, better gig and there’s the dread at more responsibility. There’s the ‘Thank God for new beginnings’ and the ‘What if no one likes me’ moments.

But you shouldn’t have to suffer through wrecking nerves, check out the official SHNG Ulimate Guide for your first day at work, in a new place.

  • On time is late

While it makes absolutely no sense to get to your new place of work hours early, you can still be very prompt. If your designated resumption time is 9:00 a.m, try to get there by 8:30 a.m.

You want to be early, but not so early that you get there before the security.

  • Be ready for any, and every thing

It’s a new environment, even if you’ve been in the same industry and at such, you have to constantly be on guard. Try not to be too familiar and at the same time, don’t be too strict in order to avoid making unnecessary bad blood or too much familiarity with people you have not gotten to know appropriately.

  • Know your worth

You were hired because you met certain standards or requirement, don’t underestimate yourself because of the caliber of people you meet there. You are there to play a key part in the organization or company, stand your ground through the initial teasing (or snide, as the case may be).

  • Don’t say no to lunch

There is a very high possibility that you get invited to lunch by your new coworkers or boss, and while it may be unfamiliar territory you should accept the invite. It gives you a chance to break the ice and get familiar.

  • No go dey do pass yourself

Last, and of utmost importance, be yourself and MAINTAIN YOUR LANE.
